While a shield is on your character's body - in hand or strapped to the back - it is able to passively block some projectiles that may hit the shield, particularly arrows and crossbow bolts. Additionally, holding down the Alt Weapon Mode button with certain shields will allow you to enter Shield Wall Mode, holding the shield up and automatically blocking all incoming attacks that hit the shield for even less stamina than usual - however, this comes with a few drawbacks. It takes a few seconds to initiate this mode, your camera turning is restricted and stamina regeneration is prevented while in this mode, and you cannot attack without canceling the shield wall in the process.

Shields

While a shield is on your character's body - in hand or strapped to the back - it is able to passively block some projectiles that may hit the shield, particularly arrows and crossbow bolts. Additionally, holding down the Alt Weapon Mode button with certain shields will allow you to enter Shield Wall Mode, holding the shield up and automatically blocking all incoming attacks that hit the shield for even less stamina than usual - however, this comes with a few drawbacks. It takes a few seconds to initiate this mode, your camera turning is restricted and stamina regeneration is prevented while in this mode, and you cannot attack without canceling the shield wall in the process.

Miscellaneous

Cost Name Ammo Function
1 Bandage 2 Restores 50 health to the user after a short animation. Dropped if player is hit with a melee attack while holding.
1 Lute - Allows the user to play a few musical notes while held. This provides no real benefit, but the alt mode turns the lute into a blunt weapon.
2 Pavise Shield 1 Deploys a portable wall that is roughly chest-high. Can also passively block projectiles like other shields, but does not function as an actual shield.
2 Smoke Bomb 1 Throw to create a large cloud of smoke for about 12 seconds around the point of impact, obscuring vision. Can extinguish any fires it is directly thrown at. Dropped if player is hit with a melee attack while holding.
4 Bear Trap 1 Deploys a trap on the floor, which knocks down and significantly damages the first person who steps on it. Players who are crouching can walk across it safely.
6 Fire Bomb 1 Throw to ignite a section of ground for about 10 seconds, constantly damaging anything in the area. The damage rapidly increases the longer a player remains in the area. Dropped if player is hit with a melee attack while holding.
6 Medic Bag 1 Drops a bag of medical supplies. Players can interact with it to recover all of their health. Takes about 1 second to use, and can be used 4 times in total. Automatically disappears if left on the ground for 2 minutes.
24 Toolbox 6 Allows you to create the following structures, each using a different amount of ammo: A barricade of stakes (1 ammo), A plank wall with an arrow slit (1 ammo), A brazier to ignite arrows (but not crossbow bolts) and ballista shots - though it will not ignite players standing on top of them (3 ammo), or a small ballista that automatically resupplies itself with bolts (6 ammo). Each of these structures automatically build on their own after their initial placement, and persist until destroyed.
