The Zweihander is a two-handed weapon.

Overview[ | ]

Strengths[ | ]

Long Two-handed sword with 2nd best reach (after Spear & Halberd alt grip, tied with Halberd) and high damage.

High reach allows for very easy target switching when fighting multiple enemies. Often outranges other weapons.

Slow swing speed allows for some of the most extreme drags in the game. Weapon size drains large amounts of stamina from 1 handed users.

Weaknesses[ | ]

The slow and cumbersome, disadvantage when fighting MULTIPLE (specifically) enemies with fast weapons (cleaver, bastard sword). Blade often gets stuck on walls and obstacles if used carelessly. Fairly easy-to-read swings.

Historical References[ | ]

The Zweihänder was used from the 15th up to the 17th century, often carried by landsknechts. Their use in combat remains uncertain and historians debate various theories. It was most likely used in one of the back rows of pike formations to storm and kill the remaining enemy pikemen and musketeers after their pike formation broke and the pikes no longer posed a threat to them. Landsknechts with Zweihänders were also used to protect the banner bearers within a pike formation. Zweihänders started to dissappear in the late 16th century and were mostly used as parade weapons after the 16th century. The swiss guard possesses two Zweihänders up to this day which are carried next to the banner when new recruits are sworn in.

"Zweihänder" is the german word for "two hander". Other names for it are "Bidenhänder" which means pretty much the same, "Gassenhauer" which means loosely translated "Alley cutter" which refers to cutting a alley into an enemy formation, and various other.
